Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Clarity
This book does an amazing job of clarifying many difficult questions that we all struggle to understand. Whether you consider yourself a mature Christian, or someone searching for their faith, you will find answers in The Shack. The main character, Mack, is all of us. His discoveries will become new understanding for you.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Enjoyable
I honestly enjoyed every page of this book. It touched my heart in a special way.It gives good insight to the forgiveness that has been extended to each of us from God.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - THE SHACK
This was truly one of the best books I've read that features religious topics. I would not have normally picked this up but it was referred to me by a friend. If more "christians" would read this, discord and war would be a long forgotten thing. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and felt that even the "tragedy" was handled in a soft way but very effective.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Inspiring Book - Makes You Think Outside of the Box
The Shack is an inspiring novel based on core spiritual truths. It is hard to put down once you begin reading it. I found my self laughing and crying at the same time. It makes you think outside of the box regarding God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It shows how simple and beautiful real love is. You definitely will want to share it with friends and family. I did! I am waiting to get it back so I can re-read it.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Sloppily Sentimental, Theologically Shallow and Riddled with Clichés.
As a work of fiction and a theological narrative The Shack scores below average on both fronts. For book so highly touted by well-respected critics, this book was a huge disappointment.

The Fiction.

If grading just the book for the sake of it's fiction and Young's writing abilities I'd give it a C+.

To Young's credit the plot is provocative. A runaway teenager grows up, goes to seminary and gets married all while battling the demons of an abusive father and ... Read More
